Hi
When I update the package list wit dselect I get the following error
message:

Replacing available packages info, using /var/cache/apt/available.
dpkg: parse error, in file `/var/cache/apt/available' near line 108494
package `beep-media-player':

Have you tried aptitude instead of dselect? I believe it is an improvement in
all respects over dselect.

This problem has nothing to do with dselect or aptitude. The file
/var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.de.debian.org_debian_dists_sid_main_binary-amd64_Packages
(substitute your favourite debian mirror instead of ftp.de.debian.org) is
wrong, more specifically for some packages the "Filename:" field contains a
sintax error, e.g. Filename: pool/main/a/apcd (0.6b.nr-2)/apcd_0.6b.nr-2+b1_amd64.deb for apcd, Filename: pool/main/b/battery-stats (0.3.3-1)/battery-stats_0.3.3-1+b1_amd64.deb
for battery-stats and so on for beep-media-player, beep-media-player-dev,
diald, k3d, k3d-dev, oss-preserve. Either these files contain an error on
the debian mirrors (for the amd64 architecture, the i386 one is ok), or apt
messes them up upon downloading them. I corrected these errors with a text
editor and after this dselect (or any other apt frontend) works ok. What's
up? Who should investigate/fix this?

Bye
Giacomo
