Do you have a filename starting with "-=" there? The shell would
expand this to

   chown -R jkr:jkr -=foo=- file2 file3 file4

And makes chown recognize the followed = as an option.
Try the following, which makes chown ignore "options"

   chown -R jkr:jkr -- *

or this, which expands to: ./-=foo=- ./file2 ./file3

   chown -R jkr:jkr ./*
