Hi,
I am just on the verge to buy a Fujitsu Scaleo Pa A64 35+ (AMD64 3500+
with 1 GB memory and Radeon X700 graphics card). However, I am a bit
hesitant, as I have tried to install Debian on a Fujitsu Esprimo P5600
at my work.
The Fujitsu Esprimo is also an AMD64 machine and uses the SiS761 chipset.
With the current install CDROM (testing etch and daily) it is not possible to
bootstrap the installation procedure as the SATA drivers are not recognized.
The sysadmin had to patch the 2.6.12 kernel to load sata_sis such that it
recognized the SATA disk. So, eventually it was possible to bootstrap the
Fujitsu Esprimo by downloading the image over the network and make a base
install, and next adding packages by hand.
Or you could probably have gotten away with an ubuntu dapper flight-2 or
later iso. I did for my esprimo when testing, even if I run a kernel.org
kernel now, netboot means not having to worry about whatever
distributions ship. Current etch seems also to be at 2.6.15.
Does anyone has an idea which chipset the Fujitsu Scaleo Pa series use? And
will the sata_sis patch be included in the kernel on the install CDROM. (I
think the sata_sis is patched in kernel 2.6.14 or 2.6.15.) Or is it not
difficult to create my own install CDROM?
Have you checked the data sheet from fujitsu? At least for the esprimo
(which is the machine I care about) they do list chipset in the
documentaiton.
