ATI OpenGL Support??? Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
Hi all,
Open GL support is :( and I'd like to get it running. I've never had to work
with kernel compilation, etc. so things are a bit Greek. As for
installations of Linux I can do that on the fly, apretty smooth process, even
working with fdisk.
I have downloaded and ran the ATI driver off the ATI Web site (i.e.
ati-driver-installer-8.20.8_x86-64.run), but nothing happens. Don't know
where things were installed, or what even needs to be run next.
When I run something like glxgears, the first thing I see displayed is,
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
Within the file, "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4" I do find listed under the "Module"
section,
Load "GLcore"
...
Load "dri"
...
Load "glx"
Also, some further investigation, I find within /usr/X11R6/lib the following,
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 2005-09-20 22:15 libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.1.2
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 633776 2005-09-15 16:10 libGL.so.1.2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2005-09-20 22:15 libGLU.so.1 -> libGLU.so.1.3
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 535776 2005-09-15 16:10 libGLU.so.1.3
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 93474 2005-09-15 16:10 libI810XvMC.a
Under /usr/X11R6/lib are also the sub-directories, modules and X11, but
there's too much information there to even know where to start.
Any suggestions??? I know that there's a Web site that does explain how to
get things working, but nothing is really listed as step one, two, ..., n.
Things are still complicated, since assumptions are made that one should
already have a certain level of expertise.
Peter
