Nop, not recommended at all.  Sarge is recommended. If you want a recommended 
Debian, go for Sarge.

But, yes, testing (etch) is resonably stable to be usefull. Just don't start 
complaining if your system crashes, vanishes in a puf of smoke or burn to a 
crisp, and be ready to send in full bug reports.
