i didnt make the original post its SMP (symetrical multi processing/or) although i would strong recommend always holding on to the last working kernel prior to your current. and with SMP kernels, holding onto a working non-smp (uni processor) kernel. even if its just the install kernel, then you track the lastest SMP. its just good practise (tm) Dean lordSauron wrote:
yeah, the spm or smp or whatever it was (short-term memory lapse... sorry) is the one for dual-cpus. I'm not sure but I think it's also the one for dual-core cpus, right? anyways, make sure you follow these steps: install the new kernel. boot the new kernel. THEN it's safe to uninstall the old kernel (unless you wanna keep it around, but that's not a good idea usually). I hear you can get some really strange things when you uninstall the active kernel.
