Re: AMD64 and IPW2100 (in Notebook ACER ASPIRE 1520WLMI)

Hello,
I do also have an acer aspire 1525wmli notebook.

As far as I know the standard wlan card won't work in 64bit:
1. There is no native driver.
2. When using ndiswrapper the 64bit ipn2200 driver loads but the card
is not able to send and receive any packets. So it's useless. I think
we have to wait a few months ;)
3. Driverloader from linuxant does not support this card in 64bit too.
They told me they would contact me if it does (it was on June this
year)...

After fighting with ipn2200 card I decided to buy an intel 2200 bg card.

It works like a charm in 64 bit env.
My system info:
Debian testing (amd64)
kernel: 2.6.13
ipw2200 driver source: 1.0.6-4 (from unstable - since I use 2.6.13)
ieee80211 source: 1.0.3-3 (from unstable repository - since I use 2.6.13)
firmware from ipw2200.sf.net for 1.0.6 driver

It did also work with 2.6.12 and the same driver.

I am able to surf the web and use "hacker tools" like kismet, airsnort :]

The firmware loads without problems so it WORKS on 64bit systems.

Best Regards
Mateusz
