I have had this problem on a gigabyte board.  After a recent "apt-get upgrade"
and reboot, the primary switched ports.  Because I have commercial software
with a license manager tied to the host ID, I had to have the license modified
for the host ID of the alternate nic.  

Is there anyway to controll which nic gets configured as the primary?
