Sorry to have been unclear (actually a bad bio-memory problem...).

I believe there is a problem with the version in the kernel and chips
connected via PCIe rather than just PCI.  Certainly all the ones I have
seen were connected to PCI and just work.  I haven't used a board myself
that used PCIe at all.
I can confirm this as well. There has been talk on this list about it at least two-three times before. I've found it to be true on several PCIe boards.
