Acers seem to be reasonably well supported - I've got an Aspire 1524WLMi
on which most things worked 'out of the box'
Things I've not explored:
Sleep/ suspend / powermanagement /cpu temp control
WIFI
I use it more as a portable workstation than a laptop - it's only got a
2 hour battery life.
But it is great to work on with the wide-screen 1280X800 res
