Cinelerra compilation and linking

Good morning, 

Slightly  off-topic, but  I hope  someone might  be interested.  I was
compiling  yesterday the fresh  new version  of cinelerra  1.2.1 using
only the tools and libraries available with debian-amd64 port. It went
fine,  so  I  guess  all  the  object files  are  OK,  but  failed  on
linking. Here is what I got:

../../freetype-2.1.4/x86_64/libfreetype.a: file  not recognized: File
format not recognized
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[3]: *** [../x86_64/titler.plugin] Błąd 1

Here are the compiler and linker versions:

GNU ld version 2.14.90.0.7 20031029 Debian GNU/Linux
gcc (GCC) 3.3.4 (Debian 1:3.3.4-2)


Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
