We are working on it, but don't expect a release in the near future.
The problems are mostly in the area of 64bit/32bit compatibility, i.e.
making sure that you can install any mix of 32 bit and 64 bit 
applications on a single image.
This work is mostly being discussed on the debian-x86-64@lists.debian.org
list, where the port to AMD's hammer architecture is done.

Note that you can use a 64 bit kernel with debian on s390 in order to use 
more than 2 GB RAM, but there are a few applications that might not
run in that environment.
