Are those narrow SCSI drives? I can't find a category for 18 GB on Pricewatch,
which leads me to think that they don't really make them anymore. They list
some 9 GB narrow drives for $78. Wide 36 GB drives can be had for around $65.

My gut-level feeling is that Firewire or even USB2 are OK for drives that are
used infrequently or for backup purposes (I use them for this), but I'd be
worried about using that for a 'main' disk on a critical server. It's more
cabling, the firewire and USB2 code is less tested (I lurk on the firewire
list) and it's generally just more stuff to go wrong.
