Hi!

r-base currently FTBFS on alpha with:

Adrian Bunk found out that this is an issue of linking with -fpic instead of -fPIC. Adjusting the
flags fixes the linker error. Attaching a patch which patches both configure.ac and configure. The
latter is necessary since the package currently doesn't regenerate the configure before build auto-
matically.
