As far as I can tell there are three solutions:
1) upgrade to a 2.6 kernel and compile glibc with only nptl (i.e. no linuxthreads)
 2) use glibc-2.3.2
 3) use the work around patch attached.

We know this patch, the problem for a normal debian user is:
How to patch glibc and compile it the debian way. When downloading the source package there is no clear possibility to patch it and then run dpkg-buildpackage. The problem is that the make script unzip linuxthreads and copy directory trees around. Any change in the source is made obsolete by dpkg-buildpackage.

So my question: HOW TO PATCH & COMPILE glibc from debian source package with dpkg-buildpackage?

At this time I am running an older glibc deb package (set to HOLD, from October last year) with a replaced libpthreads.so. Now I have the problems that the list of hold packages gets longer and longer because some newer libs depend on newer versions of libc. The replaced version of libpthreads.so was compiled by Tom Evans.
