Re: XP1000 sudden halt

Hello
On XP900 and DS10 alphas, you have a very good smart power controller called RMC that allows you to remotely check via serial port the temperature of your machine and power it on/off.
You might find something useful for your problem.
See http://www.freebsd.org/relnotes/CURRENT/hardware/alpha/support-proc.html#AEN655 I am not sure that RMC exist on xp1000 but the xp1000 configuration sheet mention it see

Hello,

I tried to search over the archives, but found no info. So:
I have XP1000:
cpu model : EV6
cpu variation : 7
system type : Tsunami
system variation : Monet
cycle frequency [Hz] : 500000000
platform string : COMPAQ Professional Workstation XP1000
cpus detected : 1

with 1GB RAM and 4GB SCSI disk. I run kernel 2.4.32 + grsec patches. Today, at 04:33 it suddenly switched off after about 20days uptime but
1) there is no sign of problems in messages/logs
2) there was no problem with electricity (it's on UPS in the server room where the other machines work ok. yes, it has auto_boot option)

Do you have any hint/info about how to get more info about my Alpha status? Are there any SMARTd/sensors or similar functions for Alphas?

Dmesg is at: http://t1.cz/dmesg.txt

So I politely asked the ISP staff to press the power button and now the Alpha runs as if nothing happen.

p.s. as for grsecurity - I was running 2.4.x kernel on older Alpha
(http://www.t1.cz/alpha/old/) for more than a year without any problems.
So I don't blame GRsecurity for the halt.
