Compilation problem

Dear all,
I did installed Deb Sarge Alpha on a Dec alpha (ds20).
It works well since my last apt-get upgrade command,
which upgrade the gcc compiler version, now it is :

Target: alpha-linux-gnu
gcc version 4.0.2 (Debian 4.0.2-2)

I did installed R software and also installed under
it some packages without any problem (before the
upgrade command). Since the apt-get upgrade command,
I'm unable to install any new package for R, each time
the installation ending like this : (sorry it's a
french version : )

/tmp/cc6RpfLa.s: Messages de l'assembleur:
/tmp/cc6RpfLa.s:8032: ERREUR: Opérande de
relocalisation inconnue: !lituse_jsrdirect
make: *** [data.o] Erreur 1
ERROR: compilation failed for package 'gstat'
** Removing '/usr/local/lib/R/site-library/gstat'
** Restoring previous
'/usr/local/lib/R/site-library/gstat'

(this example is trying to install gstat package under
R)

I did post messages in the R mailist list without
success. But I guest it is more a compiler problem, so
this was not the way to ask the question.

Does anybody here have any idear of what's append ?

Regards
