$ head -n 1 /realboot/etc/aboot.conf 
0:2/vmlinuz ro root=/dev/sda3 ramdisk_size=8192 initrd=/initrd.img
$ ls -l /realboot/initrd.img
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 32 2004-09-06 19:25 /realboot/initrd.img -> boot/initrd.img-2.4.27-1-generic
$

aboot has no problem with symlinks.
