If it is a Digital Server 5300 or 5305 I think you can follow the instruction
for the AlphaServer 4100 at
http://www.alphalinux.org/docs/rawhide/4100_install.shtml.
Note using the Debian boot floppies the bootfile is called linux.bin not vmlinuz.gz.
