That MILO command never worked for me. I always got the same error
message, even though I was able to list the contents of the diskette
without a problem [therefore it can read the filesystem just fine...])
Try something like

boot fd0:/linux.gz root=/dev/fd0

To find out what the name of the kernel's file is, try

ls fd0:

You can then substitute that for linux.gz in my command above.

Hope that works, if not, try another diskette. Making the rescue disk
with dd is the right thing, so perhaps you just had a bad disk. MILO
seems to be VERY sensitive to a diskette that's even close to having a
bad sector... (i.e. it doesn't seem to try anything to correct the
error).
