I think it is a 32-bit related issue - 2^32 = 4,294,967,296 = 4GB. With a
64 bit address space you can have up to 2^64 (18,446,744,073,709,551,616
= 16,777,216 terabytes [16 peta? Don't know about such big greek prefixes
;-) ]).
