Thw multia was an "edge" device - firewall, webserver, etc.
Did most things quite well until I decided to screw around
with PHP and SSL - it was too slow for my patience.
Anyway....

There is a CDROM on the bus with the stated IBM drive.
I did the opposite of what you suggested last night.
I put the IBM drive onto the 2906 - it behaved better.
I was able to "dump" the volume, but several services
that use that volume (exim, imapd, httpd) had hung
when I came in this morning. I brought the machine
into single-user mode and was able to do the dump
with no problems - does this seem right? On the
multia I could always backup on the file system "live".

I'm building a kernel with that driver as we speak.
I will move the CDROM to the 2906 - I don't
use it for anythign other than noise suppression
of the HD underneath it anyway.
The brief spurts with the IBM/DAT on the Qlogic
suggest a big performance boost on backups -
would be cool if itcould be make to work.

Yes, but less frequently - "dump" would get furthur before failing.
Thanks for the help Jay!
