Re: trouble booting 2.4.2 kernel--almost!



To all folks who have been helping me with problem before, 
but with the v2.4.1 kernel, I just tried the v 2.4.2 kernel and it got further.  

The system actually booted this time.  The following is evidence of the 
fact that it booted:

However, it did not stay up long.  It locked up solid.  I suspect that 
the auto-mount of a drive from a remote machine might have 
done it, but I am not sure.

Also, it has been suggested to me to try the "generic" insteady of 
"pc164" Alpha type. The problem there is that the 
"CONFIG_ALPHA_SRM=y" cannot be set for generic kernels 
(at least from make menuconfig).

Any ideas on what could be wrong or what to try are appreciated.
