java development on alpha

hi list,

I would like to know if anyone of you are developing java applications
on alpha-linux platform.  If yes, can you please tell me where and how
I can get a decent version of JDK (1.1.8 atleast) that I can run on my
potato debian-alpha box.

I know that compaq gives JDK 1.2.2 but I don't want to try it 'cos it
is still in beta4 stage and also they give in RPM format and so I will
definetely have dependency problems even if i use alien.
