Weird IRQ assignment for sound

Hello;

My sound card (ESS SOLO-1) for some reason gets assigned an IRQ of
255 (!) This is a ruffian and this is a PCI sound card. Anyone know
why this would be? I'm trying to load the ALSA driver and it complains
that:
/lib/modules/2.2.18/misc/snd-card-es1938.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
Hint: this error can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
/lib/modules/2.2.18/misc/snd-card-es1938.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.2.18/misc/snd-card-es1938.o failed
/lib/modules/2.2.18/misc/snd-card-es1938.o: insmod snd-card-es1938 failed

In the logs:
Dec 26 21:49:58 dravana kernel: snd: unable to grab IRQ 255 for ESS Solo-1
Dec 26 21:49:58 dravana kernel: snd: ESS Solo-1 soundcard #1 not found or device busy

Anyone know what may cause this/how to fix it?

TIA,
Ron
