I have never done an install on an alpha, but I have CC'd this message to
John who has an alpha similar to the one you describe and the
debian-alpha list, perhaps one of them can give you some advice.

However, from what you describe it sounds like you need to tell milo to
load a ram disk image as well as the root disk itself. The root should not
be root=/dev/fd0, but it should be root=/dev/initrd (???)

[Aside: Bill is from The Linux Store, they are setting up a 600Mhz 21164
to act as a mirror and to be open to developers]
