What was the error message? Something about /dev/scd0 not existing?
In that case, "mknod /dev/scd0 b 11 0" is your friend.

BTW, I always prefer to put the options at the beginning, as in

    mount -t iso9660 -o ro /dev/scd0 /cdrom
