debian kernel patches break miata kernels and warps X !?

Hi,

This is a follow-up to my earlier reported `new MIATA' problems. I
*really* struggled with this, a long time, so please bear with me if I'm
slightly vexed ;/

My SCSI disk kept being ignored by the kernels generated from debian
kernel-source-2.0.33. Using a virgin 2.0.33 kernel fixed it. Apparently
some of the (i386?) patches to the Debian kernel are in conflict with the
current generation miata (PWS 500a). We should indicate this somewhere,
like in the nano-HOWTO.

Anyway, the configuration that works for the SCSI (it still does not fully
work, see below) is as follows:

Facts: The kernel is standard 2.0.33

+ alpha-patches-2.0.32-0.1 from gatekeeper

+ axp-2.0.33-miata of Loic Prylli

+ menuconfig-alpha.2033 (sic).

with the .config file included below.

What I'd like to ask is the following: when running startx I now get
messages

	   _X11TransSocketUnixConnect: Can't connect: errno = 2

instead of an X screen. Running just X and starting clients works fine.
Do you know if the debian patches changes something in the network code and
exploits it afterwards in a way that I've lost by compiling from a fresh
kernel source?

Other notes:

* I have a Matrox Millenium II (4M) that works fine in 16bpp
1600x1200 mode so that part is very nice :)

* I (still) cannot access the network at all: the tulip driver seemingly
functions perfectly except it does not actually access the card :( Info
  below...

Here are the hard data ... any (further) help will be greatly appreciated!

Regards,
	 Kristoffer
