new kernel

Hi,

I'd like to replace the 2.0.31 kernel that came on the boot disk I used to
convert my Alpha PC164LX to Debian (it's constantly spitting out kernel
"unaligned trap" messages to the console). I got the 2.0.32 kernel
sources, applied the 2.0.32 alpha patch and, after configuring, typed
"make boot". A few C warnings aside, things seemed to go fine and I ended
up with a "vmlinux.gz" in the arch/alpha/boot subdirectory. When I moved
this image to /boot and told MILO to boot it, however, I end up with
endless screens full of "Can't handle kernel paging request at virtual
address ----". Are there some special options I need to add to get it to
recognize the new kernel or did I just compile it wrong? Thanks...
