I've got a 21164 (XLT), and building the 2.1.87 kernel with
gcc_2.90.25-0.1 will give an error very similar to the one below, in
mm/page_alloc.c:

For me it's -Ox where x >= 1.

I don't have my exact error here; let me know if you need to know the
exact text. Also, if you have a new version of gcc, I'll be happy to try
it.
