Package installation can't chown symlinks?

Hello,

I'm trying to upgrade findutils from the eecs.umich.edu mirror, and
when dpkg installs, this is what happens:

Preparing to replace findutils 4.1-31 (using findutils_4.1-32.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement findutils ...
dpkg: error processing findutils_4.1-32.deb (--unpack):
error setting ownership of symlink `usr/doc/findutils/changelog.gz':
Function not implemented
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
 findutils_4.1-32.deb
E: Sub-process returned an error code

I got a similar error about being unable to set ownership of symlinks
while installing other packages. Any ideas about this?
