It's not that it's totally evil (I just make it sound that way), it's the
current "big outstanding problem" that is causing the problems (shared
libs depending on shared libs).  It's a known condition, but until it's
dealt with elegantly, it's a pain at times.  I just work around it when I
need to.

The only thing that I can think of that needs to be changed soon with
libtool is the addition of the newer Alphas to be automatically recognised
as Alphas (it returns something like alphapca56 instead of just "alpha",
which is unknown to libtool...it should be checking for alpha*- instead of
alpha-).
