Hmmm, that path leads me to suspect that you patched a debian
kernel-source-2.0.34 package?  Note that the debian kernel-source
packages already have random patches applied (not a bad thing in itself)
which complicate things if you try to apply generic patches (which
assume a pristine kernel source).

I've had no problems with vanilla 2.0.35 patched with 2.0.36-pre2.
