XFREE86 on TGA

Hi all-
I'm trying to get xfree86 to run on my UDB. When I run startx I get a
screen and mouse that is much larger than it should be and then it dies
after a couple of seconds. Any thoughts?

Here are my specs:
Monitor: ViewSonic 17ea 1765ea-1 Video Sync: horiz 30-69kHz vert 50-120Hz
video card:The standard UDB card which I believe is a DEC TGA 21030 with 2
meg ram.

I'm pretty sure I just have something set wrong because I had this setup
working under a prior Redhat installation. When I run xf86config I'm using
my own numbers for the monitor setup (not any of the predefined ones) and
I'm choosing the accelerated video card option (otherwise it runs the SVGA
server instead of the TGA server, I think???) BTW shouldn't the xf86setup
program be included in the xfree86 .deb package? I didn't see it.

Here are the results of running startx:

XFree86 Version 3.3.2 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6300)
Release Date: March 2 1998
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer
than the above date, look for a newer version before reporting
     problems. (see http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)

It seems to be passing the higher resolution modes. Could it be that my
hsync and vsync are set wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help,
