Re: Uploading rocm 6.4.X in sid

Should we start to upload all possible rocm 6.4.x into sid ?

Any objection if i start to do this for all package building in sid ?

At almost any other time, I'd say to go for it. I'm happy to see packages updated in sid whenever they're ready.

Right now, though, I suggest waiting just a little bit longer. LLVM 21 is now on unstable (whereas the LLVM 20 package that we're using on experimental is being removed from Debian [1]). I will upload rocm-llvm 7.0.1 today based on LLVM 21.

We'd have to wait for rocm-device-libs-21 to go through NEW, but we can then upload rocm-llvm to unstable, update pkg-rocm-tools with the new build targets for unstable (to match the current build targets on experimental), and upload each of the ROCm libraries to unstable one-by-one over the following week or so.

If you'd like to start uploading before replacing the compiler, it won't cause any problems, but we will need to upload them a second time (or binNMU) in order to enable builds for gfx942, gfx1200, and gfx1201.

Was also wondering if there is a sequencing to do this.

I'd recommend starting at the bottom and moving up.

I see for example that rocprim was queued from experimental src
https://ci.rocm.debian.net/packages/r/rocprim/

Is the idea to wait that most test are green before uploading, but it seems that test are not run for package in experimental, or to push in unstable?

The tests for packages in experimental are run. The user interface is just a bit confusing. The results for experimental are displayed on the page for unstable.

Sincerely,
Cory Bloor
