It is possible, yes, but this probably poses security questions to share
a common instance.

Yes, it could create it in the xdg user directory.

It is probably a good long-term way to go, so it can both be
auto-started and be per-user.

Ideally, this would be discussed with upstream, but upstream doesn't
seem to be very alive :/ In the meanwhile, we can carry patches in
Debian.
