I have yet to correlate this to anything. I've begun looking in to the clock that qemu provides. It seems as though there aren't any hardware clocks accessible inside the VM on qemu hosted by macOS on aarch64. I'll report back.
I was seeing the on vmware on amd64 also.
I have a bullseye machine running on bare metal that I haven't experienced this issue with as of yet.
