Ok, so that's a problem with espeak-ng refusing too much text at the
same time. I had a look and implemented something. Could you try to
install
https://people.debian.org/~sthibault/tmp/bullseye-tmp/espeakup_0.80-20+deb11u1+throttle_amd64.deb
to check that it fixes the issue for you?
It should be noted that when cat-ing very long files you won't be able
to interrupt speech immediately, for perl's INSTALL file it seems to be
taking a few seconds for the whole text to be buffered before one can
interrupt the speech. That's something that'd probably need to be fixed
in the kernel itself.
