Recent updates of java-openjdk insist on installing parts of the gnome desktop environment. More precisely, obsolete parts of the obsolete gnome2 DE.

libatk is an enhancement of gtk+. As such, it is a basis for the gnome desktop, but not part of the gnome desktop. There are people that like to use kde only as their desktop environment, or only use a window manager and no DE at all, and frown upon the needless installation of parts of other desktop environments. Especially if those parts insist on installing additional daemons and clutter the home directory with additional dot-subdirectories.

As of version 0.30, if not earlier, reliance on gconf is considered an error in the upstream source, see the .news file for 0.30.2 [1] and 0.30.4 [2]. Additionally, the ubuntu package for the recent version does not depend on gconf2.

I always believed that it was a policy of debian to keep package dependencies as tight as possible. So please remove the no longer necessary gcon2 dependency, libgconf2-4.

With kind regards, Lutz Lehmann
