The reason I ask is cause It will note let me install the newer virson of
speakup or gnome for that matter

is the debian-accessibility list; it might be better to ask this question on
debian-users, for example, or one of the IRC channels if it's urgent. You
can
always downgrade to the version of sudo in testing if that helps.
