Hi I noticed that you decided to use some sequence of shell commands to set JAVA_HOME. I can recommend using "/usr/lib/jvm/default-java" instead (and build-depending on default-jdk which you are already doing). /usr/lib/jvm/default-java is a symlink to openjdk6 on all arch supporting openjdk and (as I recall) gcj for the rest.
