Tools to assist colorblindness

I'm looking for color naming software that will run under KDE. When I used
Windows, I used WhatColor ( http://www.hikarun.com/e/ ). It would put a
label on the screen with the name of the color under the cursor.

With all of the color coding people are using now, I'm too colorblind to
effectively use many computer programs without this.

Is there anything like this under Linux?

If nothing like this already exists, is there a standard method for reading
screen pixel colors? I'm willing to write this, but I have no experience
writing KDE applications or interfacing to KDE like this. If someone could
point me to the proper documentation, I would appreciate it.
