A couple of years ago the Debian Academy initiative started, with the aim of providing teaching and training about Debian related topics, especially Debian development, which is the main focus of the Debian community:
Somehow it couldn't gather a critical mass of enough interested people to make it take off, and gradually faded. However in the last DebConf there was another BoF about it, which got my attention:
Since I already have some experience with teaching online courses and with installing and maintaining teaching infrastructure (Moodle, BigBlueButton, etc.) I decided to join and try to help. I proposed to (re)start with a course about how to use Moodle, BBB, and how to teach a simple online course in general. The course details are here:
We are actually ready to start, and the starting date is set for Sep 17. There is also this event page where interested people can register:
By the way, I am using my own teaching infrastructure (Moodle, BBB, etc.), just for this course, just to get started. If there is enough interest and participation, we can request some resources (server, domains) from DebianNet and install Moodle etc. there, with a proper domain.
The problem that we have right now is that we are not sure how to notify the members of the debian community that this course is starting in 2 weeks, and that they can register, if they find it interesting and want to participate in Debian Academy. After some discussions we have identified a couple of mailing lists that might be suitable for sending such a notification/invitation:
But still would like to get some advice from the Publicity Team (or anyone else), if possible. Most of the current members of the DebianAcademy are relatively new to the debian community and we are not sure about the proper means of communication inside the community.
Please let us know if you have some advice.
