For that kernel binary, if you set the kernel argument "keep_bootcon" in
Penguin, you'll probably be able to see the futex_init crash.

Either "keep_bootcon" or serial console would help here.
I've not tested this binary, but Patrick did. Since your LC III has the
68882 chip I would expect that it would get further than his did.
Do you have a download link? I could try the same binary on my PowerBook
180 (it has the 68882 also).

If you want to use another Mac as a serial console (e.g. one running ZTerm
or ClarisWorks) then you can use a printer cable (e.g. the one that
shipped with StyleWriter printers).
I generally use a Keyspan mini-din8 USB adapter with a Mac printer cable.

It has been many years since I tested a IIci. I don't recall its
configuration or what it looked like when booting.
The on-board RAM Based Video means that screen corruption is not
unexpected. You could try leaving the on-board video output disconnected
in favour of a NuBus video card (if you have one). I vaguely recall that
there's a performance benefit to disconnecting the on-board (RBV) output.

Best re-cap it and test again when the known '030 issues get fixed IMHO.
