Oh, and you REALLY REALLY REALLY must use the 'p' option to tar!
(Write x first, to make it clear what we’re doing.)

2.6ramdisk# tar xzpvf /mac/Desktop\ Folder/base.cow-m68k-20110513.tgz

Or use the ext2fs image… (you can resize2fs that later, or use it
as a “jumping board” to install Debian on ext4fs, reiserfs, btrfs,
LVM, or whatever).
