Amiga A3000 booting latest kernel

Hi all.

I passively hang out on #debian-68k (/nick DrAmigan).

I recently saw ij give a amiboot line that he said would boot to a 3.2 kernel

amiboot-5.6 -k vmlinux-3.2.0-2-amiga "root=/dev/sda4 video=pal-lace devtmpfs.mount=1"

My A3000 has been pretty lonely for a while, I have etch installed from cds.
cds say 3.1r1 - which I know is a 2.4.27 kernel. I have not stayed anywhere
close to current - nor have I paid much attention as I've been involved in
IBM Blue Gene. I'm no longer involved, so I was curious to see what was
going on in the m68k world.

I asked mirabilos if I could try to boot that kernel, and he pointed me to
the .deb. I downloaded it, put it on my A3000 system. Updated the amiboot
script that I use and decided to see what happened next - in fact mirabilos
asked me to report back. He did however warn me that I was *extremely* old
and that there had been two subsequent releases that I had passed on.

My first attempt was using the command line that ij put in the chat. The
result was:

Thinking that maybe I'd overflowed some internal buffer on amiboot-5.6, I
then attempted the same command line with amiboot-6.0 (I had found that
somewhere on the net a while back). Unfortunately, it too would not boot.

I would upgrade my machine to something subequent to etch - but don't
know how to do so via network, and I'm not debian literate too boot.

Pointers to purchasable install cds would be appreciated (if they exist).
or a HOWTO on network install.

Thanks in advance,
