I usually have HOTPLUG disabled, as udev takes ages to start up.
Memory usage really got worse, my #1 culprit is sysfs, which wastes lots
of memory on dynamically created structures. I looked at it some time ago
and it was painfully obvious that reasonable memory usage wasn't one of
design constraints.

It was already broken before. To correctly implement SysRq we would need
to duplicate some of the code to track the shift states. IMO it would be
easier to just add it to the keymap.
