I don't think anyone ever has. You'd need to recompile all of userland
to get there; there is no current system which you can install that has
-msoft-float.

no promises, but perhaps could just try the emile rescue disc. asssuming
can get a kernel. that is a pretty tiny userland, also it is a lot
faster running.

i thought there were also adb problems though. are these perrenial, i saw
discussion there were they were working out the 2.6.17 for the quadras.
but i thought i saw before that was why the powerbooks needed the 2.4
kernel, would not boot 2.2, ... but 2.4 was not on the cd.

wasn't there another powerbook, like the 180 or something ?

i guess the fpu emulation bug was fixed around about the time that the
500 series powerbook was canceled, i saw reference in motorola docs
online something was done 3rd quarter of '95, although it was obscure
exactly what it seemed likely that was it.

it could be replace i think, if i could find somebody knows how to solder.
(the small stuff). processors on a daughtercard so it could be done
through the mail even. actually could possibly use the whole chip then.

but i don't know, i just want to learn a little bit about the foundations of
linux and simpler stuff. have to make a committment to it.

see how well the cross compilers work, if those are ok, well i can
probably do it.

it is too bad i think that debian does not have a good system that takes
you from source to instaled package in one step, like fink does for macosX.
(especially since fink uses debian tools !!!). actually no let me
change that, it is too bad that fink is not a package in debian. i
think it would ease a lot of tensions.
