What list managing software does the linux-m68k list use? I know at
least mailman has a feature where you can be subscribed but not
receiving mail; I can imagine other list managing software to have
similar features.

You can enable or disable that feature by setting a user option; if it
indeed is mailman you're using, try checking whether that option is set
(I don't remember the exact name of the option, but sending "help" to
the -request address should help you get started)
