Keyboard mapping: help!

Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong here?  In X, none of my Apple
Extended Keyboard II keys seem to be mapped right.

I'm using version 3 of X which came with the Debian distro.  I've gone
into XF86Config with vi, and here's what I've currently got after
various net searches and docs:

Section  "Keyboard"

      Protocol     "standard"
      XkbRules     "xfree86"
      XkbModel     "macintosh_old"
      XkbLayout    "macintosh/us"
      XkbVariant   ""
      XkbOptions   ""

EndSection

I've also tried XkbLayout as "us"  Doesn't help.
